All about China Pearl peach trees

China Pearl is a cold-hardy late-blooming peach. It is white-fleshed, and the stone comes away cleanly (freestone).

China Pearl has the potential for excellent fruit size.

The flavor is sweet, with the lack of acidity characteristic of white-fleshed peaches.

How to grow

China Pearl will routinely over-set, and thinning of the fruitlets after the spring blossom period is important to maximize fruit size.

China Pearl trees are vigorous, with good resistance to bacterial spot, and a track record of excellent cold-hardiness. The bloom is late, and the flowers have good resistance to frost injury.

Advice on fruit tree pollination.

History

China Pearl was developed at the Sandhills Research Station, Jackson Springs, NC in the 1990s.

Perhaps surprisingly for a white-fleshed peach, one of China Pearl's parents is Contender - a yellow-fleshed peach.
