Carolina Gold is a high-chill peach, and as a result tends to come into bloom quite late in the spring - helping it to avoid frost-damage to the flowers.

History

Carolina Gold comes from the same breeding program at North Carolina State University which produced Carolina Belle, as well as the popular Contender peach. It was introduced in 2004.
