About Orange Pippin Fruit Trees

Orange Pippin came into existence in 2005 as a website - www.orangepippin.com - where we recorded tasting notes of our favorite apples. As we added more descriptions the site started to get more visits, which in turn encouraged us to add further apple varieties to the database.

We were frequently asked where to buy trees and fruit of the varieties we described, and in 2010 we started selling fruit trees online. The proceeds from the sale of fruit trees helps to pay for new developments on our main Orange Pippin website.

All our trees are shipped by our friends and fellow enthusiasts at Cummins Nursery in Ithaca, New York. The trees are grown to our specification, and we try to offer as wide a range of varieties as possible, including traditional American and European varieties, as well as some of the more interesting newer varieties. Being raised in the cold climate of New York means our trees are naturally hardy and should transplant well.

We hope you will enjoy browsing our fruit tree shop website as much as we have enjoyed selecting fruit trees for it. We welcome your comments or criticisms - please use the Contact form (listed at the bottom of every page) to get in touch with us.

We are named after England's most famous apple variety - Cox's Orange Pippin - widely regarded as the finest of all apples. 'Pippin' is an old English word derived from the French word for 'seedling' - like many old apple varieties Cox's Orange Pippin was discovered as a chance seedling. 'Orange' is a term often used to describe apple varieties which have an old-fashioned orange flush.
