Pink Pearl was developed by Californian enthusiast Albert Etter in the 1940s. He was fascinated by the exotic red-fleshed crab-apple called Surprise, and spent decades trying to develop apples from it which retained the interestnig flesh colors but were more palatable. Pink Pearl is perhaps the most successful of his creations.
