Harrow Delight is an early season disease-resistant Bartlett-style pear. It usually has an attractive orange flush, and buttery melting flesh.

How to grow

Harrow Delight is cold-hardy to zone 4.

Harrow Delight is a very productive variety, and will tend to over-produce. It is therefore important to thin the fruitlets in late May / early June, this improves fruit size and flavor, and stops the tree lapsing into bearing only in alternate years.

It is not self-fertile, but will readily cross-pollinate with many other mid-bloom pear varieties, including Bartlett.

History

Harrow Delight (also known as AC Harrow Delight) was developed in the 1970s at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research station in Harrow, Ontario. The main focus of this program was disease-resistance, especially fireblight resistance.
