Galactica is a flat or peento peach - shaped like a donut. It has attactive red skin and firm white flesh, with an excellent aromatic flavor. The flesh comes away cleanly from the stone (freestone).

The fruits ripen early to mid season and in good conditions the fruits can be up to 3" across.

How to grow

Galactica is a useful choice for northern growers as the flower buds have good frost resistance.

It grows with a vigorous upright form and crops heavily. Fruiting usually begins in the 3rd year.

History

Galactica was developed by North Carolina State University in the 1990s. It is closely related to the well known and successful Contender peach, crossed with a Fantasia nectarine, and further crossed with a Chinese flat peach to give the characteristic peento shape.
