Malus domestica 'Sunrise'
Our inventory is up to date, you can pre-order now for the spring 2024 planting season.
Although the name might suggest Sunrise is an early-season apple, it is probably better considered a mid-season variety. It is more likely named after the striped / flushed red coloration reminscent of a fall sunrise.
The flesh tends towards the softer end of the spectrum, and has a pleasant sweet aromatic flavor for eating fresh.
Sunrise was raised at Welford Park in England at the end of the 19th century. Despite the old world origin it is thought to be a seedling of Northern Spy.
