Hudson is a late season sweet cherry, ripening slightly later than Sweetheart, and about a week later than Hedelfingen.

The cherries are slightly above average size, with a dark red skin. The flesh is firm and sweet.

How to grow

Hudson appears to have good resistance to fruit cracking, and is therefore a good choice in areas where summer rainfall is an issue.

Another useful quality is it flowers late, thereby avoiding early spring frosts.

History

Hudson was developed at the New York State Agriculture Experiment Station in the 1930s, but not released until the 1960s. Its parents are Oswego and Giant.

Hudson was an early (and successful) attempt to help growers extend the sweet cherry season into late July and early August.
