Idared is an attractive late-season apple, with a mild flavor, useful for both eating fresh, cooking, and juicing.

How to grow

Idared has some susceptibility to fireblight and mildew but is generally an easy variety to grow. It is fairly precocious and usually a heavy-cropper.

The tree flowers early in the spring, and blossom has some frost-resistance. It is a good pollinator of other early-blooming apple varieties.

History

Idared was developed at the Idaho Agricultural Experimental Station in the 1930s. It is a cross between Jonathan and Wagener.
